Constance Fisher Part Two: Three More Children Dead, an Escape, and a Mystery in the Kennebec River Twelve years after Constance Fisher drowned her first three children in Maine, she was released from psychiatric care and given another chance at life outside an institution. Then, in 1966, tragedy happened again. In Part Two of the Constance Fisher case, we examine the horrifying deaths of her second set of three children, the questions surrounding why Fisher was free after the 1954 killings, and her return to Augusta State Hospital in Maine. But Constance Fisher's story did not end behind hospital walls. Years later, Fisher escaped from Augusta State Hospital. Her disappearance triggered a search that ultimately led to the Kennebec River, where her body was found. Was her death an accident, suicide, or something more complicated? We examine what is known about her final days and the theories that have followed this extraordinary Maine true-crime case for decades. More than half a century later, the Fisher case has taken on renewed relevance because of the Lindsay Clancy case in Massachusetts. In January 2023, Lindsay Clancy killed her three children—Cora, Dawson, and Callan—and later pleaded not guilty on the basis that she was not criminally responsible. Her attorneys argued that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis, while prosecutors maintained that she understood what she was doing and knew it was wrong. Her highly publicized 2026 murder trial ended in a mistrial, reigniting a national conversation about postpartum mental illness, maternal filicide, criminal responsibility, psychiatric treatment, and what happens when severe mental illness intersects with the justice system. Decades before the Clancy case, Constance Fisher's 1954 and 1966 child deaths raised many of those same devastating questions. How should the law respond when a mother kills her children during an alleged psychiatric crisis? When is someone considered safe enough to leave institutional care? And what happens when doctors, courts, and families get that decision catastrophically wrong? This is Part Two of the Constance Fisher story from Hitched 2 Homicide. 🎙️ Hitched 2 Homicide — True crime where love, marriage, family, and murder collide. She killed three of her children. She was committed to a psychiatric hospital. Five years later, she was released—and eventually three more children were dead. The Constance Fisher true crime case is one of the most shocking stories to come out of Maine. On March 8, 1954, Constance Fisher drowned her three children—Richard, Daniel, and Deborah Fisher—in Waterville, Maine. Fisher had been experiencing serious psychiatric problems and was later diagnosed with severe mental illness, with diagnoses over the years including paranoid schizophrenia and postpartum psychosis. Rather than being sent to prison, she was committed to Augusta State Hospital. In 1959, Fisher was released and returned to her husband, Carl. They went on to have more children. Twelve years after the first killings, the unthinkable happened again. On June 30, 1966, Kathleen, Michael, and Natalie Fisher were found dead. All three had been drowned, creating an eerie repetition of the 1954 tragedy. Constance survived another suicide attempt and again became the focus of a case involving mental illness, psychiatric treatment, postpartum psychosis, and the insanity defense. In this Hitched 2 Homicide true crime story, we examine the two sets of child killings, Fisher’s psychiatric history, her years inside Augusta State Hospital, her controversial release, and the haunting question at the center of the case: How was a mother who had already killed three of her children ever placed in a position where it could happen again? The story of Constance Fisher is more than a historical murder case. It is a disturbing examination of postpartum mental illness, psychosis, psychiatric care in the 1950s and 1960s, criminal responsibility, institutionalization, and six young victims whose deaths occurred twelve years apart. * WARNING * This episode of Hitched to Homicide discusses suicide, postpartum depression, severe mental illness, and the deaths of children. FROM THE HITCHED 2 HOMICIDE VAULT In 1921, one of Hollywood’s biggest silent-film stars entered a San Francisco hotel suite for a Labor Day party. Four days later, actress and model Virginia Rappe was dead, and Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle would become the accused figure at the center of one of the most sensational scandals in American entertainment history. This true crime documentary examines the rise to fame of Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle and his deadly encounter with Virginia Rappe. Beyond the headlines, we trace the events at the St. Francis Hotel, the allegations surrounding Virginia Rappe’s fatal illness, the contested medical evidence, Maude Delmont’s role in launching the accusation, the three manslaughter trials that followed, and Roscoe Arbuckle's career after. Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle was tried three times in connection with Virginia Rappe’s death. The first two trials ended in hung juries; the third ended with an acquittal in April 1922 and an extraordinary written statement from jurors criticizing the prosecution. But the court verdict did not repair Arbuckle’s public reputation—or erase the cruelty directed at Rappe after her death. In this video, we separate the verified record from the myths that have surrounded this case for more than a century. What happened in Room 1219? Why did the press turn the case into a national spectacle? And how did the death of Virginia Rappe help change Hollywood’s relationship with scandal, censorship, and celebrity image control? In This Documentary • The life and career of Virginia Rappe before 1921 • Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle’s rise as a silent-film superstar • The Labor Day party at San Francisco’s St. Francis Hotel • What is known—and still disputed—about Room 1219 • Rappe’s hospitalization and death from peritonitis associated with a ruptured bladder • Maude Delmont’s accusation and the questions surrounding her credibility • The prosecution and defense cases across three trials • Arbuckle’s 1922 acquittal and the jury’s unusual public statement • Tabloid reporting, victim-blaming, and the myth of the “Arbuckle scandal” • How the case helped intensify pressure for Hollywood self- regulation Virginia Rappe died after becoming ill following the September 1921 party. The precise cause of her injury remained contested in court, and the most graphic claims repeated in sensational coverage were not established by forensic evidence. This episode addresses the case with care for Rappe, precision about Arbuckle’s acquittal, and attention to the historical limits of the surviving record. In the early hours of August 23, 1987, best friends Don Henry, 16, and Kevin Ives, 17, were struck by a freight train near Alexander, Arkansas. Authorities initially ruled their deaths a marijuana-related accident, claiming the teenagers had become incapacitated and fallen asleep on the railroad tracks. Their families refused to accept that explanation. As new medical opinions challenged the original ruling, the case was reclassified as “undetermined.” A Saline County grand jury later concluded that the deaths of Don Henry and Kevin Ives were a probable homicide. Still, nearly four decades later, no one has been charged. This true-crime documentary investigates the infamous Boys on the Tracks case: disputed forensic evidence, a missing tarp, alleged drug-trafficking connections, the deaths and disappearance of people linked to the broader investigation, claims of local corruption, and the conspiracy theories that transformed an Arkansas cold case into a national mystery. Was the movie, American Made true? And why did so many who knew about the night Don and Kevin died, mysteriously die themselves? What happened near the Crooked Creek trestle that night? Were Don and Kevin already dead when the train hit them? And why has no one ever been held accountable? This video separates documented facts from allegation and speculation while examining one of the most haunting unsolved cases in Arkansas history. On November 23, 1982, eighteen-year-old Amie Hoffman finished her shift at the Morris County Mall in New Jersey and walked toward her car. She never made it home. Two days later, Amie was found murdered in a secluded water-retention tank. Less than two weeks later, twenty-five-year-old Deirdre O’Brien was forced off the road, abducted, sexually assaulted, and stabbed repeatedly. She was discovered alive along Interstate 80 but died from her injuries, leaving Morris County terrified that a serial killer was hunting women along its roads. As detectives struggled to identify the murderer, they consulted psychic Nancy Weber. Weber claimed to receive disturbing impressions about the killer’s appearance, vehicle, violent past, and plans to create a false story involving injuries to his back. Investigators later said that several of her statements appeared to correspond with details surrounding the man they eventually arrested—but exactly how much Weber knew, when she revealed it, and whether her information truly advanced the investigation remain fiercely disputed. The case changed dramatically when convicted murderer James Koedatich reported being attacked and stabbed by a woman while driving. Police determined that his wounds appeared self-inflicted. His suspicious account, the description of his vehicle, physical evidence, fibers, and other forensic findings ultimately connected him to Amie Hoffman and Deirdre O’Brien. In this episode of Hitched 2 Homicide, we explore: The disappearance and murder of Amie Hoffman The abduction and fatal stabbing of Deirdre O’Brien James Koedatich’s previous murder conviction and release from prison The fabricated roadside attack that drew police attention The physical and forensic evidence found in Koedatich’s vehicle Psychic Nancy Weber’s controversial involvement The trials, convictions, and overturned death sentence The debate over whether psychic information helped solve the case—or was fitted to the evidence afterward Was James Koedatich exposed by the visions of a psychic, or was he simply a calculating killer who finally outsmarted himself? Watch now as we separate documented evidence from paranormal claims in the haunting 1982 murders of Amie Hoffman and Deirdre O’Brien.
